Do you speak Glaswegian?

There are something which you already know but still they make you feel happy when you encounter them. Felt same when we landed in Edinburgh. (Yes, I am talking about our last week vacation at Scotland)
Fact that we could actually understand all the announcements, notices, displays, adds...hahaha
We were so happy that wow, here we don't have to wonder what does that announcement or notice means or how to explain something to someone, here language is English !

We came out of Airport, it was easy to follow the instruction, kept walking towards car rental, picked up the car.

Talked with my sister (who is doing her master studies at Glasgow school of arts) in response to her inquiry if we were already there, safely.
I chattered happily ...

Hey wow you know what we love this place, it's so easy to communicate !
arrr...hmmm...likewise?
Everything in English feels so relaxing now !
Ohh ya, that way !
It's nice being able to understand everything.
Ohh wait until you have to communicate more with them.
What do they mean, Official language in Scotland is English, isn't it?
It is.
Then?
It's Scottish English, and wait till you are in Glasgow and you 'll know what i mean !
hmmm ok.

And we knew what she meant as soon as we entered Glasgow and all our first response ended up being same as - huh? sorry?
hehehe

But afterall it's English, ears gets acquainted with it after some time. And good thing, not everyone in Scotland speak that thick accented fast-paced Glaswegian English !
Yes in Glasgow they speak Glaswegian , not exactly English. ;o)

On the side note, While googling i came across so many website, offering help with Glasgow accent ! Amazing !

My husband came from just outside Glasgow, in fact one of his brothers was a teacher in a school in Glasgow. I used to hate going back there because once they all got together, I could never understand a word that they said!
I remember the first thing my MiL said to me and it was "Where de ya hail fra?" meaning, "Where do I come from" and it was very confusing when everyone started talking at once!
But, luckily, my husband soon lost his accent when we moved to England!

Alice... you are here first one commenting here on this post... such a lovely co-incidence as i wanted to let you know how much i thought about you when i was at Scotland... there are so many castles and horses roaming freely in open fields... everytime i passed a castle or saw those horses i thought about you... that may be you live here.... somewhere around ! May be i crossed you and couldn't know it's you... and i hated it that i didn't know where were you exactly...haha

We are going to visit England this summer, and i think it will be lot different than Scotland :)

Look at these photos! Beautiful!
I have a very good friend who is Scottish, from Glasgow, and I do know exactly what you mean about the understanding-part. I always understand her now, but in the beginning it was rough with her strong accent/brogue.

Lopa, no, you've not upset me in any way! I live on the English side, but only by 2 miles and I keep horses here too!
It would be nice if we could meet up the next time that you are over here, you'll have to let me know.
I love Holland, especially all the tulip fields, and I adore all the museums and buildings. The history of it fascinates me too!
So weird! So near, yet so far apart!
Big hugs!

I love your disclaimer post on your side-bar! I had never read it before, but I am fully in agreement with you that people should be careful of what they write. Plagiarism is never a good thing and more people should be aware of that.

I've left you an award on my site!
Have a great week-end!

@ A Touch of Dutch

Yes, when we look at sign boards and all, it looks so convenient but when we ask something we have to ask two times...and once you say huh or sorry, they know you are a foreigner... hehe
But we had fun :o)

You are British, so you know what I am talking about, what do you think about Glasgow English accent?
We loved Edinburgh, when we were standing at Royal Mile, it looks so beautiful.... standing on a hill, a road running downside surrounded by beautiful buildings and meeting clear blue sea. It was impossible not to fall in love with it on the spot !
