This Monday we had Painting class in water colors.
I wasn't much enthusiastic for it, as i have been using water colors since i was may be 7 - 8 years, almost two decades.
This class turned out a pleasant surprise to me as i had great fun experimenting, I didn't know about so many possibilities combining it with other mediums, like salt, soap, wax or even water spray !
Amazing, I am glad i didn't decide to skip it.
Instructor for this class was new to me and so when i introduced myself, i did it in English to make sure she knows i might not be understanding everything she speaks. ( have come with this trick after some experiences hehe)
Then as usual class started in Dutch, after while taking presence call when my name came she asked me :
" Lopa, begrijp je dat veel Nederlanders naar de klas te volgen? "
( translation : "Lopa, do you understand Dutch to follow the class?" )
My immediate reaction before she completed the sentence was :
"Nee"
( translation: "No")
And whole class broke up laughing !
Yes, including me !

Really funny :)...
haha..nice !!
Hahaha I had the same experience once. In my first month here, the aunt of my hubby asked me, "Spreek je Nederlands? And I answered, "Nee ik spreek geen Nederlands".
Funny how our second tongue become an instinct already.
I (not only me all in class) have the same experience during my(our) french class. Tutor is mostly speaking in French n I just sometimes stare at him. Though he is kind enough to explaing the things through gestures. :)
lol!! :D crazy girl Lopa! :)
@ Hetal,
Laughter that followed for next 5 mins, that indeed made it look like "Really Funny" ;)
@ Sorcerer
Thanks and welcome to my blog :)
@ Pinay in Dutchland
Ya, when understand language a little bit then our first reaction automatically comes in the language that question is asked !
@ krunalc
Ya in language class it's always like that, here too.
But in Painting i prefer that they know i don't know that much Dutch to understand everything going on in the class as some terms are really technical.
But as she asked in dutch if i understand Dutch and i said no, everyone laughed as i did understand the question asked in Dutch !
So i got a pat on my back, that we got you....hahaha

But i really don't understand all the technical terms they use for painting in explaination !
:-/
hehe
HAHAHAHAHA! Funny story, Lopa. lol
The painting looks very pretty by the way. :D
haha smart lopa…nice post …Your post reminded me of an incident I encountered. But mine is not funny as urs :)
In s'pore tamil is a 3rd offical lang. So during inital days when I was learning the lang , a lady talked to me in tamil and I replied in tamil saying " no I don't understand tamil". Instead of getting funny looks from her, she nagged at me thinking that I am pretending not to know the lang and she went on with her lect about how teenagers don't respect the lang :(..
After that I decided , I either stop talking in that lang or learn that lang fully. Well I did the latter part :)
@ Droomvla
Thanks :)
That painting is from same lesson, it's with use of salt with water colors.
I don't have that prominent effect, but it can create amazing effects on painting!
@ sagarika
Ohh wow you learnt Tamil after moving to Singapore? wow girl.... i heard that's one of those very difficult languages to learn as well, specially for those not from south India !
I know it can backfire when we reply in same language negatively, making us sounding rude or arrogant if not taken into right spirit !
haha..you won't believe how I learnt it....learnt it by watching sun tv(tamil channel)...as mom is a 24/7 tv person...even I am surprised how I learnt , esp when I am very bad in languages...
Lovely watercolour, Lopa - good work! I like the soft colours, very nice. How much for it? :o)
Very funny anecdote in the class - so you didn't understand Dutch, eh? :o)
Lopa, that looks really interesting-the water colour painting class..as for the Dutch Q and A,hahaha! Can imagine the scene..what was the response after you said 'no'?
funny incident
@ sagarika

So you had to watch Tamil channel even when you didn't speak it, huh? hehe ... does you mum speak Tamil too?
@ Aledys Ver
Thanks Aledys,
Nothing for you my dear friend, you can just have it :o)
hahaha that's a tricky question, won't fall for that again...hehehe
@ AmitL
Thanks :)
Ohh man don't ask, immediate response was a big laughter broken out in the class, of which even i was a inseparable part ... lol
@ sm
Isn't it amazing that if we try to notice how our day to day life seems full with such small fun-filled moments in our lives :o)
hahaha :D I know it happens.. I've seen people who don't know Kannada say "Kannada Baralla" (I don't know Kannada). The painting looks beautiful.. :)
